Jerry Lee Yeater 1933 - 2013
Jerry Lee Yeater, 80 of rural Ashland, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, October 18, 2013 at Samaritan Regional Health System in Ashland.
He was born in Ashland on October 1, 1933 to the late Lloyd Samuel and Marie Evalene (VanGilder) Yeater.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of Ashland. He graduated from Hayesville High School in 1951. He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He had worked for the Mansfield Tire Company for 20 years as a welder and in the Maintenance Department. He left Mansfield Tire in 1970 and moved to a farm in Vermillion Township and started his career in farming. He operated Yeater Farms along with his son Sam and Sam’s son-in-law Tony Collins, and even though he had taken a less active role in the farm, he was still working on the farm when he passed away.
Jerry was a member of Stone Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Rural Conservation District, he had been a member of the Ashland County Soil and Water Board for 30 years, and served on the Ashland Equity Board for many years. He served on the Vermillion Township Zoning Board and was a member of the Hayesville Lions Club.
On June 10, 1956 Jerry married the love of his life, Pat Huber, and enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Pat, his son and daughter-in-law, Sam (Margi) Yeater of Ashland, two granddaughters, Libby (Tony) Collins and Chelsea Yeater; a great grandson, Coy Collins; one sister, Joy Sue (Richard) Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina; and two brothers, Gene (Janice) Yeater of Ashland and Tom (Kate) Yeater of Swanton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Lloyd Yeater on September 4, 2013.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stone Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Jan Berthinee and Pastor Jeffrey Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland County Soil and Water Conservation District, 1763 St. Rt. 60S, Ashland, Ohio 44805 for an agriculture scholarship in Mr. Yeater’s name..
