Malcolm David Franks, 77, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Monday evening, December 16, 2013 at Crystal Care in Ashland.
David was born January 5, 1936 in Ashland, Ohio and was the son of the late John W. and Gertrude (nee White) Franks. He was a 1955 graduate of Ashland High School.
While in High School David worked at the Troy Road Market. He was the Manager of the Isaly’s Restaurants in Mansfield, Ashland and Medina and was later the Manager for Hall’s Cafeteria in Ashland. He then opened Dave’s Cafeteria in downtown Ashland which he operated for a number of years. In 1979 Dave went to work at the Ohio State Reformatory in the Food Service Department and retired as a Corrections Officer from Manci in 2002.
He was a member of Ashland Masonic Lodge #151 F. & A.M., a member and Past High Priest of Ashland Chapter #67 R.&.A.M. and a member of Ashland Council # 128 R.& S.M.. One of David’s favorite things to do was to dance. He also enjoyed watching all of the Ohio sports teams on television.
He is survived by two step-sons, William Bush and James Bush, his sister, Rosemary (Franks) Johnson of Ashland, and nephews, Bill (Jan) Johnson of California; Brian (Deb) Johnson of Lucas; Robert (Anette) Johnson of Ashland; and Dave (Robin) Johnson of Perrysville; and his sister-in-law, Trudy Franks of Columbus.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William August Franks, and Allen W. Franks.
Friends may visit with the family from 1-2:45 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home. The Ashland Masonic Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 2:45 p.m. Saturday December 21, 2013 followed by the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. with The Rev. Donald Earlenbaugh officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.
