Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Vulgamore, 93, “Devoted mom and wife”
Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Vulgamore, 93 of Ashland passed away Monday evening, January 13, 2014 in Brookwood Place.
She was born on April 17, 1920 to the late Reuben and Edna (nee Hoisington) Steiner in Sterling Ohio.
Following Betty’s high school graduation, she furthered her education by attending Biola Bible Institute in Los Angeles, California. She was a homemaker most of her life, also serving as secretary to professors at Grace Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana.
Betty was married to the love of her life, Howard D. Vulgamore on September 4, 1949. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, Betty and Howard served at the Brethren Navajo Mission in New Mexico.
She was a devoted member of the Grace Brethren Church in Ashland where she was active in the Senior Adult Bible Fellowship.
She leaves behind two loving daughters, Jane (Randy) Kettering of Westerville and Judy Rice of Indianapolis, Indiana; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Kettering Eldridge, Jesi Kettering Jones and Taylor and Christopher Rice.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Howard, who passed in May of 2001, and three sisters, Mary Wilging, Lillian Martin, and Martha Bucklew.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Grace Brethren Church, 1144 West Main Street, Ashland, OH 44805, with Reverend Norm Johnson officiating. She will be laid to rest, next to her husband Howard in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
