Obituary for Richard W. "Dick" Forbes

Richard W. “Dick” Forbes, 82, Devoted Husband and Father
Richard W. “Dick” Forbes, 82 of Ashland, went to be with his Lord and Savior with his family by his side, March 31, 2014 while in his home.
Dick was born on October 4, 1931 in Richland County to the late Roy and Ethel (nee Gill) Forbes.
He graduated from Savannah High School, Class of 1949.
Dick married the love of his life, the former Mary Anne Hiner on June 30, 1951.
The couple would call their family farm, home, in 1966. Dick farmed full time for more than 46 years, while the couple raised their children. During those years, while keeping the farm going, Dick was also employed at Mansfield Tire, Hayesville Feed Company as the manager, Ashland Landmark Equity which later became Town and County Co Op, and Tractor Supply.
To say that Dick was a hardworking man that was insistent on everything being just right, would be an understatement.
He was a devoted member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland, Hayesville Lion’s Club for 25 years and served as the co-director for the Follies and a performer for 12 of those years, and served numerous years as President of the Ashland County Farm Bureau Council where he was also a member.
Dick leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years of marriage, Mary Anne Forbes of Ashland; two daughters, Karen (Phil) Taffin of Hooper, Colorado and Michelle (Bob) Drugan of Ashland; three sons, Daniel (Dawn) Forbes of Ashland, Robert (Carol) Forbes of Nova, and Thomas (Rhonda) Forbes of Perrysville; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Tucker and Martha Plank; and one grandson, David Forbes.
