Nancy A. Icenhour – Devoted Wife & Mother
Nancy A. Icenhour, 78, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday evening, July 2, 2014 at Brethren Care Village following a long illness.
Nancy was born April 26, 1936 in Elyria, Ohio to the late Otto and Marsha (nee McConnell) Sweet. She has been a resident of Ashland for most of her life.
She had worked as a seamstress for the Cresco Mfg. Co in Ashland until it closed. She then went back to school at North Central State in Mansfield and graduated with honors with an associate degree in Therapeutic Recreation in 1985. She worked part time at Brethren Care Nursing Home as a Therapeutic Recreationist. Nancy was also an entrepreneur and started her own company, Quality Training Supplies, selling educational training books all around the country from 1994 to 1999.
Nancy was a member of Park Street Brethren Church and the Berean Sunday School Class. She also taught Sunday School, Bible School and conducted the music for the Bible School.
She enjoyed Quilting and had made quilts for all of her family members and also for the homeless in Cleveland, Ohio. She did water color painting, all kinds of crafts, cooking and baking, especially pies and breads and loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On July 2, 1954 she married the love of her life, Kenneth W. Icenhour and the couple enjoyed a strong loving marriage for 60 years as she passed away on their anniversary.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth W. Icenhour of Ashland, her children, Kenneth Jeffrey (Darlene) Icenhour of Ashland; Mark William (Roxanne) Icenhour of Ashland; LeAnne Christine (Jan) Bauerdick of Mansfield; Amy Susanne (Neil) Clark of Ashland and Joel David (Susan) Icenhour of Ashland; 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley (Jack) Cavanaugh of Warner Robbins, GA; Mary (Bud) Sipes of Mansfield; Carolyn (Jim) Lucas of Ashland; Linda (Don) Lawrence of Ashland; one brother, James Sweet of Ashland and her aunt, Ruth Eleanor Anselm of Ashland.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Street Brethren Church with Dr. Arden Gilmer officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. at Park Street Brethren Church.
