Geraldine “Gerry” Michel Jacobsen, 89, 1925-2014
Gerry Jacobsen, of Ashland, died November 13, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born September 26, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Henry and Josephine (nee Bahensky) Michel. She graduated from high school in East Cleveland and after graduation worked for Krohler Furniture.
On June 15, 1946 she married Donald “Jake” Jacobsen at the First Baptist Church in Bedford Heights, Ohio. Shortly after they were married they moved to Ashland to raise their family. Donald preceded her in death October 8, 1998. Gerry worked for many years at gate 2 at the Ashland County Fair. She was an avid bowler and won the Woman’s Ashland City Bowling Tournament in 1958 with her doubles partner Alice Schlingman. She was an active member of the Ashland Emblem Club and in her spare time loved tending her wild flower garden.
She is survived by two daughters Cheryl (Jim) South, JoAnne (Jim) Holland, one son Donald (Bonnie) Jacobsen, a daughter-in-law Kyle Jacobsen, and her brother, Alvin Michel of Zephyrhills, Florida. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Vanessa (Ted) Ebert, Amanda (Travis) South, Marlana (George) Rose, Ryan Holland, Mitch (Jenni) Jacobsen, Garrett Jacobsen, Samantha (Matt) Keeble, Tyler Jacobsen, and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death on November 2, 2009 by her son Chris.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, November 17, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with Reverend Don Earlenbaugh officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.
