Harold Eugene Underwood
Harold Eugene Underwood, 88, of Ashland, passed away Monday evening, November 16, 2015 at Brethren Care Village in Ashland.
Mr. Underwood was born in Steubenville, Ohio on November 4, 1927 to the late Ernest and Elexandria (nee Mercer) Underwood. He was a graduate of Steubenville High School Class of 1945.
He served in the United States Army Air Corp and following his discharge he attended and graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Harold worked at the first atomic plant in Ohio at Portsmouth. He spent the rest of his working career on the west coast with Atomics International then with Rocket Dyne where the rockets for the Apollo flights were made. He returned to Ohio in 2005 and has lived in Ashland since.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steubenville, Ohio.
Harold is survived by one brother, Gary Underwood of Avon Lake, Ohio; one sister, Norma Underwood of Ashland; a nephew, Matt (Shelly) Underwood; a great nephew, Max Underwood and a great niece, Devan Underwood all of Avon Lake, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Sophia Underwood.
At his request there will be no services or callings hours observed.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions in Harold’s name may be made to the Sophia Underwood Scholarship Fund in care of the Ashland County Community Foundation, 300 College Ave, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
