Lee R. Akers, 73, of Ashland, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, May 16, 2016 at University Hospitals Samaritan Regional Health System.
He was born May 17, 1942 in Betsy Layne, Kentucky to the late Amos and Ella (Davis) Akers. He moved to the Ashland area when he was 18 and worked in Wellington, Ohio until he took a job at National Latex Co. working in the Blow Mold Dept. and later became a supervisor in the Maintenance Department until he retired in 2005.
Lee was a member of the Ashland Worship Center where he was an active volunteer in the churches programs. He enjoyed restoring old cars, Jig-saw puzzles, keeping up with the news on CNN, going to auctions, and tinkering and fixing things to resale.
Lee is survived by his three children, Pegg (Larry) Harper of Ashland, Tina (Gregg) Schoonover of Polk, and Brad (Raye) Akers of Ashland. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, one sister, Josie Beaver of Galion and one half sister, Gladys Lee of Grundy, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Rickey Lee Akers, a grandson, Julius Beyer, two sisters, Jewel and Sylvia and two brothers, Charlie and James.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ashland Worship Cente,r 1420 Cottage St. Ashland, Ohio, with Pastor Ted Mason officiating. Burial will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Ashland Worship Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the family and left at the Ashland Worship Center.
