Obituary for Roger Dean Osborn

Roger Dean Osborn, 81

Roger Dean Osborn, 81, of Ashland passed away, Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the Kingston of Ashland.

He was born January 12, 1935 to the late Jesse and Mary Elizabeth (nee Cline) Osborn in Fairborn, Ohio.

Roger proudly enlisted in the United States Navy following his high school graduation. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Dayton, a Master’s Degree from the Ohio State University, and his doctorate from Pacific University.

He married the former, Glenna Yvonne Hensley on April 14, 1956.

Roger retired from the mental health field. He was employed at the Ashland County Mental Health and Recovery Board and Mound Builders Guidance Center in Newark. He devoted his life to help heal those in need.

Roger was an avid pilot who enjoyed flying to Lake Erie and in the surrounding Ashland County area. He loved to read and listen to southern gospel music. Roger enjoyed staying in contact with his friends throughout the United States and the world through electronic correspondence. Along with his family, Roger loved to travel.

Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne Osborn of Ashland; Sheri (Jonathan) Shire of Ashland; three granddaughters, Makala, Malana, and Malia Etzwiler; two brothers, Dale (Becky) Osborn of North Canton and David (Carolyn) Osborn of Beavercreek; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mary Elizabeth Osborn.

Funeral services will be held, Monday, June 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Harry Strachan officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
