Donald R. Kruty Sr., 84 of Ashland, passed away, Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
He was born on September 27, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Julius and Irene (nee Hraggil) Kruty.
Don graduated from St. Boniface High School, Class of 1950. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in the Co. B. 73rd Tank Battalion.
He married the former Helen Papay on January 22, 1955.
Don was still actively working and served as president of Sarver Paving Company since 1995; prior to his taking over the company he worked for Fenton Construction Company.
He was a member of the Ashland Elks 1360, VFW Post 1067, and Harry Higgins Post 88 of the American Legion. Don enjoyed camping and fishing on Lake Erie throughout his life.
Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Kruty; two daughters, Denise Kruty of Ashland and Debbie (Don) Breed of Ashland; two sons, Dennis (Kathy) Kruty of Ashland and Donald (Kathleen) Kruty Jr. of Fountain Hills, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Breed of Henderson, Nevada, Ashley (Bryan) Hall, Michael Breed, Bradley Kruty, Brian Kruty, Sarah Wurster (fiancé Robert Klenk), Dustin (Angie) Kruty, all of Ashland, and Derrick Kruty of Parma; and eight great grandchildren, Mason and Gracelyn Hall, Jack Wurster, Gavin Kruty, and Dylan, Dakota, Denver, and Delaney Kruty.
In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Cherise Mims Kruty; two sisters, Mary (Eddie) Sarver and Irene (Bill) Rietz; and one brother, Albert Kruty.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Barlow officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
