Charles E. Thompson, 84
Charles E. Thompson, 84 of Ashland passed away, Saturday, August 19, 2017 in University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center.
He was born on April 11, 1933 in Ashland to the late Charles H. and Ellen (nee Hoover) Thompson.
Charlie graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1951. He went on to earn a certification as tool and die maker.
He married JoAnn Goodson on February 11, 1967.
Charlie retired after more than 31 years from General Motors in 1996.
He was affiliated with the Paradise Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working on model trains and airplanes and playing golf throughout his life. He was also a member of the Ashland Gun Club. Charlie and his wife JoAnn wintered in Florida for many years.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 50 years, JoAnn Thompson of Ashland; one daughter, Cindy (Neil) McMasters of Fredericktown; three sons, Joel Morrison of Ashland, Jeff Morrison of Seville, and Jamie (Gayle) Thompson of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Jason Morrison, Jeremy (Hannah) Morrison, Josh (Kristin) Morrison, Travis (Robin) Emery, Christian Morrison, Michael Kitts, Jessica Morrison, Scott (Brooke) Morrison, and Tyler (Ashley) Thompson; 14 great grandchildren, Alyssa and Bryce Thompson, Bella, Joslynn, Kinzly, Esme, Grayson, Karlee and Ayden Morrison, Trent and Lucy Emery, Noah and Evan Kitts, and Cloe Montgomery; and four sisters, Mary Oxender of Ashland, Beverly (Dave) Dull of Ashland, Marjorie Gray of Ashland, and Kathy Nelson of Ashland.
In addition to his parents, Charlie is preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Mielke and Betty Miller; and one brother, Don Thompson.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Layton Broome officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Paradise Hill United Methodist Church, 1491 OH 603, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
