Eugene E. Lonsway, 83

Eugene “Gene” E. Lonsway, 83 of Ashland passed away early Sunday morning, October 29, 2017 in Lifecare Hospice in Wooster.

Gene was born on September 29, 1934 in Fostoria, Ohio to the late Edmund and Corinne (nee Bistner) Lonsway.
Following his high school graduation, Gene proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged.

Gene married the former Norma Jean Wright on November 3, 1989.

He retired after more than 30 years from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Gene was a member of the Paradise Hill United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Harry Higgins Post 88 of the American Legion where he was actively involved with the fish fry for many years.

Gene was a volunteer for the Ashland Fire Department throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jean Lonsway of Ashland; two sons, Tim Lonsway of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania and Terry Lonsway of Ashland; one step daughter, Lori (Scott) Eagle of Ashland; one granddaughter, Jennifer Lonsway of Ashland; two step grandchildren, Jake (Samantha) Eagle and Megan Eagle, both of Columbus; one sister, Erma McGrain of Tiffin; and two brothers, Don Lonsway of North Carolina and Jerry (Judy) Lonsway of Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by numerous sisters and brothers.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Paradise Hill United Methodist Church, 1491 OH-603, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Layton Broome officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery, where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paradise Hill United Methodist Church, 1491 OH-603, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or the American Legion, 1338 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
