Elmina M. Mowry, 98

Elmina M. Mowry 98, of Ashland passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in Brethren Care Village.

She was born May 16, 1919, in Ashland, daughter of William McQuate and Minnie Maude Smith McQuate of North Baney Rd. Mrs. Mowry called Ashland her home and lived in Ashland for most of her life. She also resided in
Bradenton FL for 28 years and spent many summers in Franklin NC.

Elmina was a graduate of Ashland High School class of 1937 and had been employed by Cresco and Curtiss Ginn Jr. family home.

On October 10, 1940, she married Robert Cecil Mowry, who preceded her in death August 8, 1998.

Mrs. Mowry was a member of Third Street Church of the Brethren in Ashland. She participated in church Sunday school and church circles, helping with many church related activities.

The home building business with her husband Bob was an important part of Elmina’s life and was a creative contributor to its success. Elmina loved music and enjoyed playing hymns and standard music on the organ. She enjoyed all aspects of nature, travel, golf, and bowling. Mrs. Mowry was an active participant in the Ashland City Schools supporter of the Ashland High School marching band and musical events.

Most importantly, family was her focus. She was a homemaker, wonderful wife, mother, and neighbor. She enjoyed having friends and family over for dinners, spaghetti her specialty, and playing cards. Elmina just had that fun loving nature.

Surviving are two daughters, Jeannette (Tom) Shenberger of Strongsville, OH and Becky Alexander (Rod) of Colorado Springs, CO.; one son, Gary Mowry (Marty) of Ashland, OH/Ocala, FL.; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, three sisters, Edna Overly, Luzetta Strine, and Frances Hindenlang; and two brothers, Marshall McQuate and Gilbert McQuate, all preceded her in death.

A service will be Saturday, January 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. A meal and time of fellowship will folllow the interment in the Bella Bleu's at Water's Edge Event Center in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland City School District, 1407 Claremont Ave., Ashland, OH 44805, attention: Treasurer.
