Obituary for Donald E. Hickey

Donald Eugene Hickey, 86

Donald Eugene Hickey 86, of Savannah, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2017, in Ashland Ohio. He was born on February 22, 1931 in Berea, Ohio to the late Thomas A. and Helen V. (Schoenherr) Hickey.

Donald was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation., He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and a co-founder of the Ashland-Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Helen Vickers (Eschtruth) Hickey to whom he married November 1, 1950. Children; Michael (Linda) Hickey of Nova, David Hickey of Polk, Susan (John) Plank of Shiloh, Karen (Jerry) Claypool of Ashland, William (Karie) Hickey of Savannah, Donna (Danny) Streit of Savannah, Rebecca Hickey of Savannah, Barbara Weyant of Ashland, Patrick (Lorie) Hickey of Adario, Mary Bays (Chad Stoops) of Mansfield, and Raymond Hickey (Ronda Cains) of Greenwich. 46 Grand-children,45 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren, brother Paul (Mary Lou) Hickey Ashland, Sister Patricia Mumaw of St. Petersburg Florida, Bother-in-law Brooks Ringler of Greenwich, sister in laws Laura Hickey of Ashland, Ruth (Eschtruth) Mikeals of Summerfield Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Thomas, sisters Mary Ellen (Hickey) Bonfiglio, Ruth (Hickey) Ringler, a brother Dennis Hickey. brother-in-law’s John Bonfiglio, Mike Mikeals, Phil Mumaw, a son-in-law David Weyant, grand-daughter Melissa Adams and a great-grand-daughter Riley Flowers.

He was an avid Euchre player and gambler. He enjoyed watching his family play sports, hay-wagon rides, and never knew a stranger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Rev. Father Rod Kreidler presiding. Interment will follow in the Ruggles Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus.
