Obituary for Gregory J. Turk

Gregory J. Turk, 62, of West Salem, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at University Hospital Parma following a long illness.
Greg was born in Lodi, Ohio, June 27, 1955 and was the son of the late Donald R. and Portia D. (Miller) Turk. He had been a resident of Ashland County his entire life and was a graduate of Mapleton High School class of 1973.
Greg farmed all of his life on the family farm with his parents and his brother Jeffery until his decline in health would not permit it. He worked 15 years as a meat cutter with Turk Brothers Meats in Ashland and he owned and operated Turk’s Excavating doing backhoe work and hauling limestone.
He was a member of the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren and a member of the Mizpah Sunday School Class.
Raising cattle and hogs were his hobby and he loved being outdoors.
On August 15, 1975 Greg was married to Janis M. Emminger who survives him. He is also survived by one daughter, Jennifer E. (Scott) Dawson of West Salem; three grandchildren, Taylor, Skylar and Rylee Dawson; one sister, Linda K. (Michael) Turner of Polk and one brother, Jeffrey J. (Patricia) Turk of Polk.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a Celebration of Greg’s Life on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren with Pastor Tom Zuercher officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren’s Barnabas Fund or to the Building Fund at the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren, 1509 Twp. Rd. 655 Ashland, Ohio 44805.
