Obituary for Shirley L. Koenig

Shirley L. Koenig, 79

Shirley L. Koenig, 79 of Ashland passed away, Thursday, March 08, 2018 in the Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on June 13, 1938 in McKay to the late Clarence D. and Evelyn L. (nee Jarvis) Workman.
Shirley graduated from Hayesville High School Class of 1956. She married the love of her life, Leonard F. “Corky” Koenig on February 14, 1960.

She worked at Merrels Market and Green Lantern Restaurant, both is Hayesville. She also was employed at the grocery store on Center Street in Ashland for many years.

Shirley served on Hayesville Village Council holding several positions for many years. She is a life member of the AMVETS Post 1969 in Hayesville. Shirley also was a den mother for cub scouts in her earlier years.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Corky Koenig; one daughter, Trina (Jeffrey) Kitts; two sons, Leonard “Scott” (Toye) Koenig and David T. Koenig, all of Ashland; five grandchildren, Jasmine, Jeanette, Sierra, Leonard “Dewey” Koenig, and Courtney (Josiah) Jones; six great grandchildren, Isabella, Simon, Lily, Obadiah, Chloe, and Jedidiah; and three sisters, Mary Thompson of Trafalgar, Indiana, Donna (Kenneth) Strine of Hayesville, and Jacque Workman of Bradenton, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by two sisters, Helen (Dean) White and Betty (Robert) Runciman.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Dr. Butch White officiating. Interment will follow in the Vermillion Cemetery in Hayesville. Friends may call, Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
