Phylis I. Griggs, 87, of rural Ashland, passed away Saturday morning, March 24, 2018 at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio following a short illness.
Phylis was born on the family farm in Ashland County on February 22, 1931, the daughter of John Franklin and Kathryn N. (Hissong) Keener.
She had worked in the office of the Montgomery Ward store in Ashland and later at Islay’s cafeteria following her graduation from Ashland High School in 1950. After she married her husband, Ronald, she became a stay at home wife and mother.
She was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, and the Old Uniontown Quilters.
She enjoyed quilting, making Hook Rugs, cooking and traveling.
On October 10, 1953 she was married to Ronald Gene Griggs who preceded her in death on August 15, 2016.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy A. (Dr. Donald) Kaeser of Ashland, four grandchildren; Rhonda (Ryan) Offhaus, Regina Sklenicka, Lisa (Charles) Burgess and Zane (Sara) Bowen; seven great grandchildren; Caitlyn McCoy, Trevor McCoy, Shayla Ochier, Shane Sklenicka, Charles Burgess, Jarod Burgess and Catherine Burgess; and her three siblings; Duane (Donna) Keener, Eleanor (Norman) Wynn and Linda (Sam) Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ronald Gene Griggs and brothers Russell and John Keener.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. John Ballinger officiating. Burial will be in the Nankin Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 960 Twp. Rd. 964, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
