Obituary for Sondra L. Goard

Sondra L. Goard, 79

Sondra L. Goard, 79 of Ashland passed away early Monday morning, March 26, 2018 in University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

She was born on June 14, 1938 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Myron and Faith (nee Ryman) Warstler.

Sondra graduated from Williams Woods College in Fulton, Missouri in 1958. She married the love of her life, George Goard on November 29, 1959.

Sondra retired after more than 23 years from Ashland City Schools in 2001 where she was a bookkeeper for the cafeteria.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Sondra enjoyed tennis, golf, sewing, cooking, biking and playing bridge. She was a devoted member of the Athena Study Club.

Sondra is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Goard of Ashland; one daughter, Catherine (Cliff) Campbell of Ashland; one son, George “Ed” (Bunny) Goard of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, Alyssa (Matt) Kemme, Jenna Goard, Taylor (Jordan) Dohner, Dylan Campbell, and Heather Campbell; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Warstler of Grand Island, Flordia.

In addition to her parents, Sondra was preceded in death by one brother, Larry D. Warstler in August of 2017; and a step-father, Wayne E. Conner in 1992.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, March 30, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Tom Snyder and Reverend Dr. Allan Bevere officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association, Northern Ohio Chapter, 6155 Rockside Road, Suite 403, Independence, OH 44131 or to First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.

The Goard family would like to thank Sondra’s wonderful support group for all their therapy, bridge playing, food, and the many visitors that made her days so much better.
