Shirley Ann (Smith) Anderson 75, of rural Ashland, passed away Thursday afternoon April 5, 2018 at her residence following a lingering illness.
She was born in Ashland on December 22, 1942 the daughter of Arthur E. Jr. and Katherine J. ( Keener) Smith. She was a resident of Ashland County her entire lifetime. She graduated from Savannah High School in June of 1960 and from Wooster Business College in December of 1960.
She had worked as a secretary for Drs. Clem, Chalfant & Chalfant, Nelson’s Sanitation Service and retired from Ashland OB/GYN Clinic on December 31, 2004.
While driving her 1957 Ford Retractable Convertible, she met her husband to be, Robert W. Anderson. They married on October 12, 1963. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2012 after 48 years of marriage.
She was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles with her family. She was an avid cat lover and referred to them as her “babies.” She has had as many as 30 at a time to feed.
She is survived by two children, Brian (Lynn) Anderson of Homerville and Koreena Anderson of Ashland. Two grandchildren, Destiny D. Anderson of Ashland and Sierra E. Anderson of Astoria, Oregon; a great-grandson, Preston Scot Bechtel; her father, Arthur E. Smith of Ashland; Siblings, Roselind (Luke) Davidson, Jane (Stan) Eagleson and Wilma (Bill) Ferguson all of Ashland; nieces and nephews, Jen (Charlie) Fix, Melissa (Andy) Nell, Tim (Sue) Davidson, Rod (Patty) Davidson and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, her husband Robert W. Anderson, and a niece, Sheila Ferguson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Pastor John Ballinger and Pastor Jake Heskett officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.
