Obituary for Neil L. Edwards

Neil L. Edwards, 69

Neil L. Edwards 69, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018.

Neil was born in Avon Lake, Lorain County, Ohio on June 20, 1948 and was the son of Neil L. and Ruth (Spaetzel) Edwards.

He has been a resident of Ashland County for the past 26 years moving here from Avon Lake, Ohio.

Neil was employed by AT&T as a telephone Engineering Specialist retiring in 2000. Following his retirement from AT&T Neil has worked as a driver for the Ashland County Veterans Service Office taking veterans to the Wade Park Veterans Hospital.

He was a member of the Harry Higgins Post #88 of the American Legion, Eagles Club #2178 in Ashland and the NRA. He enjoyed woodworking, wine making, a baseball enthusiast, known as “Doc Edwards in his hometown of Avon Lake, and was a farming conservationist saving some of his farm as a future wildlife refuge.

Neil came from a military family. His father was a veteran of World War One and World War Two, and a brother was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Neil was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.

On August 25, 1979 he was married to Mary A. Krieg who survives him. Also surviving are his son Steven and daughter Stacy; and five grandchildren, Brittani, Zachary, Jacob, Melanie and Brandon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Don Edwards.

Visitation for Mr. Edwards will be held Sunday, May 13, 2018 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home 313 Center St. Ashland, Ohio. A Committal service and burial, with full military honors. will take place Monday, May 14, 2018 promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with Marty Daly officiating. Those wishing to attend need to be at the National Cemetery Cortege Line by the main entrance by 9:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 35 E. Chestnut St. #503, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
