Obituary for Dean Richard DaHinden

Dean Richard DaHinden, 78

Dean Richard DaHinden, 78 of Ashland passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Ashland, Ohio.

He was born on July 26, 1939 in Canton, Ohio to the late John Richard and June Florence (Riggle) DaHinden.

Following his graduation in 1957 from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, Dean went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1962. Later, he would earn his master’s degree also in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toledo. In addition he pursued post graduate study towards an M.B.A. in Finance at both the University of Toledo and at Ashland University.

Dean married the love of his life, Brooke S. Harlan on May 16, 1964. He retired after 38 years of professional life in 2000 from Robin Industries in Cleveland where he was President and C.O.O. Dean was previously employed at Abbott Laboratories in Ashland and General Tire and Rubber Company in Toledo.

Additionally, Dean served on the Boards of several organizations: Buckeye Feed Mills, Inc., S&Z Tool & Die, Robin Industries, Rotary Club of Ashland, Ashland County United Way, and on the Business Advisory Council at the Ashland University College of Business and Economics.

He was devoted member of the Christ United Methodist Church, where he served as the Investment Chairman for many years. Throughout his life, Dean was involved in many organizations. They include: Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Cincinnati, Leadership Ashland Class of 2004, Rotary Club of Ashland, Young Men’s Business Club (YMBC), Ashland County Shrine Club, and Ashland Benevolent, Protective Order of the Elks. Dean was a 32nd degree Mason and recipient of his 50 year award, a member of the Ashland Masonic Lodge #151 and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo.

Dean was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family, traveling with family and friends, singing in church and barber shop quartet choirs, working on crossword and Sudoku puzzles, playing euchre and flying kites on the beach.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Brooke DaHinden of Ashland; three daughters, Kristin P. (Michael) Kane of Hudson, Dr. Dawn L. (Ron) Bookmyer of Powell, and Corey A. (Rick) Griffith of Ashland; one son, Chad R. (Anne) DaHinden of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Leah (Jake) Mussay, Lauren and Steven Chalet, Tyler and Emily Bookmyer, Noah and Brooke Griffith, and Emma and Evan DaHinden.

In addition to his parents, Dean is preceded in death by one sister, Diane L. DaHinden.

Funeral services will be held, Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1140 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
