Obituary for Doris Marie McCracken

Doris Marie McCracken, 88

Doris Marie McCracken, 88 of Ashland, formerly of Florida passed away, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in the Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on September 18, 1929 in Corry, Pennsylvania to the late Paul and Mabel (nee Shrader) Crowell.

Following her high school graduation, Doris went on to earn her degree from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Erie, Pennsylvania on July 25, 1950.

She married the love of her life, William V. McCracken on September 30, 1950 in Corry, Pennsylvania.

The couple moved to Ashland where they began raising their family. She had a long career in nursing, working at Samaritan Hospital, the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, and was a school and visiting nurse.

Throughout her life, Doris was a wonderful seamstress, enjoying knitting and crocheting. She loved to watch birds, but most of all loved traveling in her retirement with her husband and wintering in Florida.

Doris was a member of the Avon Park United Methodist Church in Avon Park, Florida.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (James) Henderson of Norman, Oklahoma; one son, Mark (Valerie) McCracken of Ashland; a daughter-in-law, Sandy McCracken of Mansfield; ten grandchildren, Carrie Geib Sterling, Jason Geib, Janie Chadwick, Amanda McCracken, Bill McCracken, Megan Schaeg, Melissa James, David Braun, Joseph Braun, and Cristen Braun; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Barney Crowell of Bristol, Pennsylvania; and one sister, Donna Sturdevant of Ocala, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by step mother, Helen Crowell; her loving husband of 48 years, William McCracken on July 7, 1999; one son, Daniel McCracken; one daughter, Susan Braun; one brother, Paul Crowell; and one sister, Gertrude Duell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Corry, Pa with interment in the Concord Center Cemetery with her family.
