Obituary for Joseph E. Naugle

Joseph E. Naugle, 91, of Ashland, passed away Sunday evening, October 14, 2018 at the Ohio Health MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield.
He was born October 30, 1926 in Hooversville, Pennsylvania the son of the late Josiah and Ertie (Lehman) Naugle. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country during WWII.
Following his military service, Joe began his working career farming. In 1969 he took a job at Mapleton High School where he was a bus driver and custodian and remained the custodian at the school until his retirement in 1992. Joe had also worked as the custodian for the Peace Lutheran Church for many years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Savannah VFW Post #5692, and had served on the North Central Ohio Executive Board or the Ohio Association of Public School Employees and had also served on the State Board of the OAPSE.
Joe was a collector and a traveler. He enjoyed working outdoors, watching and feeding the birds and hiking.
On April 10, 1948 he was married to Gladys M. (Wain) and celebrated 70 years of marriage this past April.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys, his children, Barry (Linda) Naugle of Mansfield; Dan Naugle of Ashland; Kathy (Darryl) Walker of St. Clairsville, OH; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Eva Ott, his twin, Josephine Holsopple and Agnes Weible all of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Richard Naugle in 1991 and two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Beal officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland County memorial Park with the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard conducting full military honors. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at noon at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
