John D. Boyd, 81

John Delbert Boyd, 81 of Ashland died Monday, December 17, 2018, at his residence after enduring five years of Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born April 25, 1937, the son of Marlowe and Mabel (nee McCready) Boyd.

John was a 1955 graduate of Ashland High School and worked in the construction industry with Mowry Construction Company. In 1979 he transferred to Mansfield Plumbing Products, from which he retired in 2000.

He enjoyed spending time in his workshop creating segmented wooden bowls and other wood projects.

For 44 years he was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Ashland and served many years as a trustee. In 2008 he became an associate member of the Dickey Church of the Brethren filling the position of trustee. John relished the role of general handyman for the older people in the church.

For several years he volunteered carpentry services to Christian camps and the Ashland Pregnancy Care Center.

On August 18, 1957, he married Shirley Fulk who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Timothy (Tao) Boyd of Annandale, Virginia, Richard (Deborah) Boyd of Ashland, and Randall (Amy) Boyd of Ashland, eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dickey Church of the Brethren, 1509 Township Road 655, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Jeff Messner officiating. Interment will follow in the Dickey Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, December 21, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dickey Church of the Brethren.
