I met Ellen while I was studying in ACCESS. She gave me a very warm hug on my first day writing class for her knowing that I was afraid and worried. She taught me to write a good composition and left me a lot of comments which I still collected in the box. Ellen was always kind to my roommates, Joyce and Sue, and me. She took us to many places, and invited us to her house during the holidays. To me, she was not just a teacher but more like a friend and a family. So Ellen has now gone to be with her dearest mother and Teddy. I know someday I can see her again. Perhaps she would introduce me to her mother then.

I used to attend Ellen's class when I was in ACCESS in Ashland University, OH. She is a very wonderful lady and I see her as one of my mentor in my life. She has such a very kindness heart when we spent time together. She is very nice to me and two of my roommates, Sue & Angel as well. I spent my first American Thanksgiving with her and it meant so much to me. I was an international student and studied my Master degree. She gave me so much courage and always shared her time and experience with us. I came back to Taiwan and still kept in touch her. Even though, we were in the different country, she still~gave her warmest thoughts all the time, when I needed.I recently lost contact with her and found the bad news about her. Ellen, I will always remember the very nice birthday that you gave me, the very delicious pie store you took us befoer we left. Ellen, I am so wish that I were there with you when you needed someone to be a company.Ellen, do you remember what I told you before my leaving back home. I knew Ellen, then Jan, years ago in Washington, DC when she was a crucial part of a support group of women during turbulent times in the church. She was deeply sensitive and passionate about the church becoming "a larger tent" with room for everyone's truths and experiences. Her passion and compassion were very important to me personally and to our whole group. We were quite moved when she dedicated Foremothers to us. May she know healing and joy.

I met Ellen (then going by Jan Tinsley) on our 1st day of seminary. I enjoyed knowing her throughout our time at VTS, knowing her and Geoff when they were married, and corresponding regularly w/ her, via email, over the last 3 years or so when we made contact again. We last shared emails in June. I had no idea she was ill. May she rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon her.

Ive known Ellen for 35 years. We met at a retreat in Berkeley, California in the seventies, She was such a caring ,delightful person then , and continued to be that person through all the ups and downs of her life. We talked on the phone often and she came to Arizona for a visit twice. I loved her capacity to be a good friend to me AND to everyone she cared a;bout. She was extraordinarily loving and that made her a good priest as well as friend. Her deep caring extended to animals expecially and all of nature. She also stayed with her Mother through the last difficult years of her life, cherishing her Mother every step of the way. What an example of loving-kindness in every part of her relations with the world. Ellen, if you only knew how much you gave to the world

I knew Ellen through a friend who cared for our young son in her home last year. Ellen was her neighbor, and I was able to meet her and her dog many times. Ellen was always kind and caring and really enjoyed interacting with our little boy. Our condolences to her family and friends who are surely missing this unique woman.

Ellen and I were friends since 1970. We lost touch of each other after I moved to Colorado, but she found me in 2006 and we have talked a few to many times a week since. I knew her as a friend before she was a priest. Her qualities of kindness, empathy and compassion and love of nature, animals, her friends and family and anyone or any animal in need are what led her to become a priest, I believe. I will miss her terribly and my wish for her family and friends is that they find comfort in sharing memories and photos.

It was my privilege to know Ellen over the last fifteen or so years. She touched the lives of my family members here in Ashland through her generous spirit. One thing Ellen was really concerned about last month was about her family stories being passed down to the next generation. There are photos in her home that she wanted to start sharing with her niece. Since she mentioned these things to me I thought I should pass on.

Mother Ellen was my priest and my spiritual director in the time following my wife’s untimely death. When I look back from the perspective of twelve years, so much is hazy – but the kindness and strength she shared are clear, and continue to resonate in my life. May God bless her sweet, sweet soul.

I stopped into Grace Church shortly after 9/11. I needed a place to worship. Ellen and all of the congregation welcomed me. I found a home where I could pray. Sadly, Grace is no more. I will go through the rest of my life with fond thoughts of Ellen and all of Grace's members. God Bless to Ellen and all!!! Chuck Fancourt
