Obituary for Max E. Wendling

Max Eugene Wendling, 92, of Ashland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 12, 2019 surrounded by his beloved family at the Good Shepherd skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Max was born June 29, 1926 in Dover, Ohio a son of the late Carl Wilhelm and Margaret Rosella (Gretzinger) Wendling. Max was a 1944 graduate from Perrysville High School who, shortly after graduation, married the love of his life, Ruth “Babe” Rogers. He then went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy during World War II.

Early on, he learned to master the skill of masonry from his father, at Carl Wendling and Son until he became co-owner/operator of Wendling Brothers Masonry. Max built strong foundations for his family, which was his life’s joy, along with numerous landmarks throughout Ashland County and surrounding areas. After retirement, he enjoyed taking care of the wildlife around his home, traveling for local companies, woodworking, but most of all, his pets and family. Max was the type of man that had very little, gave it all, and expected nothing in return.

Max is survived by his wife, Ruth “Babe” Wendling of 75 years; sister Jean (Wally) Schott; brother Carl “Dick” (Angie) Wendling; daughter Diana “Susie” (Tolva) Clark; grandchildren Shari Clark, Mike (Christina) Clark; great-grandchildren Kristin Horst, Ashley (TJ) Houston, Brandon Bahr, Corbin Clark, and Kelsi Clark; and great-great-grandson Cameron Horst.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Wilhelm and Margaret Rosella (Grezinger) Wendling; sister, Rose Viers; and brothers Robert “Bob”, Ted and Edward Wendling.
