Roger D. Iceman, 87, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 11, 2012 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Mr. Iceman was born September 18, 1924 in Ashland, Ohio and was the son of Fred and Madge (Dickey) Iceman. He had lived in Richland County near Lucas, Ohio until he was a young man, and then moved to Ashland County where he lived the rest of his life.
Roger had worked for Mansfield Tire and then worked at and retired from the Tappen Co.
Following his retirement he worked at the White Barn Market for almost 10 years as a stockperson.
He was a member of the Polk United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Harry Higgins Post #88 in Ashland. He was a former little league and pony league baseball coach, and was a member of the McDonald’s morning coffee club.
Roger was a sports fan. He played baseball and softball for many years in the Ashland area. He bowled for the Gerwig’s White Barn and Roy’s Garage bowling teams. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren and great grandchildren play in their sporting events.
On August 21, 1945 he was married to Gladys A. Rickett who preceded him in death on July 7, 2011. He is survived by two sons, Bill (Vickie) Iceman and Ted (Bev) Iceman both of Ashland; five grandchildren, Brent (Jaime) Iceman, Matt (Debbie) Iceman, Tara (Chris) Puckett, Mandy (Mike) Atterholt, Andy (Eddi) Iceman and seven great grandchildren, Sydney Iceman, Brandon Iceman, Kobe Iceman, Averi Iceman, Emma Puckett, Maci Atterholt and Kalli Atterholt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gladys, three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with the Rev. Cheryl Roshon officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Polk United Methodist Church, 424 N. Main St, Polk, Ohio 44866.
