Harriett Ilene Young, a Woman of Strong Faith
Harriett I. Young, 78, of Ashland, passed away, October 25, 2012, in her home surrounded by family.
Harriett was born November 11, 1933 in Chester, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Robert and Ida (nee Varsey) Andrews.
She graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1951.
Harriett married Donald E. Young on April 26, 1952.
Harriett was a devoted member of Grace Brethren Church in recent years. She previously attended the Nazarene Church in Loudonville, her father was the minister of the Ashland Church of the Nazarene. At the church, she was involved in many things. Harriett was a Sunday school teacher, played the piano, and helped with Vacation Bible School. She was also a board member and served as treasurer for two terms. Harriett enjoyed needlework, including knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, embroidery and sewing. She was also a member of the Green Valley Garden Club.
Harriett is survived by two daughters, Karen (Fred) Patznick II of Ashland, and Deborah Neith of Pennsauken, New Jersey; one son Robert Young of Salisbury, Maryland; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Richard) Lorenz III, Alison Neith, and Ryan Patznick; two step-grandchildren, Kristy (Phillip) Isaac and Fred (Luann) Patznick III; two great-grandchildren, Richard Lorenz IV, and Kylie Lorenz, sister Mary Garman of Ashland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Harriett is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years of marriage, Donald E. Young who passed away on October 31, 2009; and two sisters, Bonneviere Young and Pearl Bird.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church, 1144 W. Main St., Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Norm Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Vermillion Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
