Doris Jeffries Kiser, born Doris Irene Johnston on March 16, 1917, completed her journey home on August 17, 2015.
The only child of Howard and Anna Appleby Johnston was born, raised and lived most of her life in Akron, Ohio.
Doris graduated from Kenmore High School in 1935 as Salutatorian of her class. After two years of Business College, she worked in a secretarial position in Akron before accepting a position in Washington DC as a stenographer for the Federal Government.
When post World War II jobs in Europe became available, she was part of the secretarial pool for American Military Officers stationed in Berlin. During her year and a half stay she had opportunities for travel to Holland, France & Switzerland. Highlighting her time in Europe was attending as a guest the Nuremberg Trials.
After returning to the states she reconnected with Allen Jeffries who she had not dated but admired as a Praise Team leader at their church. They soon fell in love and were married on November 8, 1949 on the radio program, The Bride and Groom Show in Los Angeles, CA. They honeymooned at Carmel by the Sea as a gift of the show.
Doris retired from the city of Akron in 1979 where she had been the personal secretary to the Law Director for many years.
Doris and Allen were married one month shy of 40 years when he passed away in October of 1988. They have two children still living, Kenneth (Ann) Jeffries of Loma, Colorado and Janet (Mike) Enzor of Ashland, Ohio.
After five years of a full, single life which included travel to Hawaii and Germany, Doris married Arnold Kiser in August, 1993. They enjoyed 13 years together and Arnold passed away in March of 2007.
Doris is survived also by her grandchildren, Shane (Marlene) Hogue, Angela Hogue, Mary Kate (Wesley) Murray and Patrick Jeffries, and seven great grandchildren.
She lived her life as a Proverbs 31 Woman, devoted to God and Family, and will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Savannah with visitation one hour prior to the service. Chaplain Jerry Gess will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, PA.
