Lloyd E. Carpenter 93, of Ashland, and formerly of rural Nova, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2015 at his residence.
Lloyd was born in Wooster, Ohio September of 1921 to the late Marshall and Delphia (nee Ross) Carpenter. He had been a resident of Ashland County all of his life, and was a graduate of Nova High School class of 1940.
He entered the United States Army in 1945 and served in the Pacific during World War II. After returning from the war, Lloyd began a lifetime of farming. He farmed his own farm until he retired in 1992. During that time he also did carpentry work.
Lloyd was a faithful member of the Homerville Grace Brethren Church for over 46 years and had served as a trustee and board member for several of those years. He was also a member of the Nova Lions Club for over 50 years, and served on the Nova School Board for 10 years during the building of Mapleton High School. He was a member of Lucas Vaughn Post 219 of the American Legion in Polk, and was a member of the Farm Bureau Board and a member of council. Lloyd was also a member of the Pacific Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2010.
On June 7, 1942 Lloyd married the love of his life, Mildred E. Howman, in a union that lasted for 73 years. He is survived by his wife Mildred of Ashland; his children, Marilyn (Edward) Newell of Dowagic, MI; Roger (Patricia) Carpenter of Nova; Louise (Gary) Leiendecker of Canal Fulton; Eileen (Jesse) Raubenolt of Ashland; 8 grandchildren, Dean (Linda) Newell, Adam Newell, Carter (Michelle) Newell, Sarah (Aaron) Sturbaum, Jonathan Leiendecker, David (Laura) Leiendecker, Benjamin Raubenolt and Nathan (Heather) Raubenolt; 8 great grandchildren and one brother, Edwin (Mary) Carpenter of Wabash, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ralph and Paul Carpenter and twin sisters, Ila Hartsel and Irene Schwan.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Homerville Grace Brethren Church with Elder, Jim Elder officiating. Burial will be in the Nova Cemetery with the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard conducting military honors. The family has invited friends to attend a meal at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Homerville Grace Brethren Church where food and fellowship can be shared before the start of the service at 1:30 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Jim Elder for Missions work, in care of the Homerville Grace Brethren Church, 8992 Firestone Rd, Homerville, Ohio 44235 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Dr, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
