Martha R. Barnes, 100, of Ashland passed away, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in Brookwood Place.
She was born June 19, 1915 to the late Peter and Margaret (nee Wise) Strobel in Wayne County.
Martha married the love of her life, Leland A. Barnes on August 8, 1930. She was a Clerk at Grants for several years and also baked pies at the Ashland Restaurant.
She was a devoted member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Martha is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Thompson of Danville, Doris Jean Hulme of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and Marty Duffey of Ashland; four sons, Charles (Melody) Barnes of Ashland, John (Nancy) Barnes of Ashland, Donald (Polly) Barnes of Cincinnati, and Glenn (Cheryl) Barnes of Layton, Utah; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Leland Barnes; two sons, Leland Benjamin Barnes Jr. and Robert L. Barnes; one daughter, Ruth Ann Hardman; one sister, Marjorie Reidenbach; and five brothers, Benjamin, Payne, Roy, Clifford, and John Strobel.
Funeral service will be held, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Patricia Reiter and Jeff Coggins officiating. Interment will follow in the Amity Cemetery. Friends may call, Friday, April 29, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home on Saturday.
