Donald “Don” Lee Shannon, 83, of Perrysville Ohio, died June 8, 2016 peacefully at his home.
He was born December 7, 1932 to Jesse C. and Elsie (Brubaker) Shannon at the Ashland County Home for the aged where they were Superintendent and Matron.
Don graduated form Hayesville High School in 1951.
He married his high school sweetheart: Ella (Walton) Shannon on June 30, 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Anti-Aircraft Radar Unit stationed in New York City during the Korean War.
Following the war, Don returned home to work at the Mansfield Tire and Rubber and Tappan Inc. where he retired after 30 years of service.
An active outdoorsman, he hunted, water skied, boated, golfed and traveled around the world to more than 40 countries.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland, Ohio.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Ella Shannon of Perrysville, OH; a daughter, Donella (Stephen) Embree of Surprise, AZ; sons, Douglas (Patty) Shannon of Perrysville, OH; George (Karen) Shannon of Questa, NM; grandchildren, Audra Snyder, Aaron (Jessica) Embree, Michelle (Josh) Gray; Heath (Nicole) Shannon; Lindsay (Matt) Carr; Felix Shannon; Jesse (Jesikah Marie) Shannon & Kenny Shannon; great grandchildren, Helaina & Calum Gray; Harper Carr; and Fiona & Lochlan Shannon;
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse C. and Elsie Shannon; a brother, James Shannon and a sister, Mary French.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church 508 Center St. Ashland, Ohio with Reverend Michael Koch officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Lucas, Ohio. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday.
