Gary L. Hofer, 54, of Ashland, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 18, 2016 at Ohio Health MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield following a year- long battle with cancer.
Gary was born in Ashland, Ohio on September 24, 1962 and was the son of Donald and Bonnie (Pettit) Hofer. He was a graduate of Ashland High School class of 1980 and had been a resident of Ashland his entire life.
He had previously been employed with Hawkins Market on Center St. and had also work at the Ashland Eagles Lodge and the Ashland Moose Lodge, and most recently had been employed as a stock person at the Ashland Wal-Mart Store.
Gary is a member of the Ashland Fraternal Order of Eagles #2178 and was a former member of the Ashland Moose Lodge. He enjoyed collecting Eagles, baseball cards, watching NASCAR (Mark Martin), and the Cleveland Indians, and playing cards (Texas Hold’em) at the Eagles Lodge and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
On April 26, 2003 he was married to Robin L. Steiner who survives him. He is also survived by three children, Rachel Steiner, Nathan Steiner and Desiree Hofer all of Ashland; three grandchildren, Kerstian Woodruff, Thomas Honeycutt and Aleaseana Honeycutt; his mother, Bonnie Hofer of Ashland; one sister, Diane Flannigan of Mansfield; one brother, Ronnie Hofer of Ashland and his sister-in-law, Roxann McCain of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hofer and his mother-in-law & father-in-law, Roger and Penny Steiner.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Eagles Chaplain, Zeke Hedglin officiating. Burial will be in the Nankin Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray the funeral expenses.
