Obituary for Janet Ruth Jones

Janet Ruth Jones
Janet Ruth (Evans) Jones, 92

Janet Ruth (Evans) Jones, 92, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Crystal Care in Ashland, Ohio.

Janet was born in Canton, Ohio, on January 26, 1925, to Evan W. and Anna R. Evans. She graduated from Dover High School, Dover, Ohio in 1943. During Janet’s high school days, she was a member of the National Thespian Society and participated in many high school plays.

Janet began her working career at Westinghouse Naval Ordinance Plant in Canton as a secretary following her graduation. She later worked as financial secretary at Perry Christian Church, Canton, and then in several secretarial positions with McKinley High School in Canton, finishing her career as a secretary in the athletic department.

When Janet was fifteen years old, her brother David introduced her to William (Bill) K. Jones, his high school friend. After dating through her high school years, Janet and Bill were married on October 16, 1943. Together they raised their three children in Canton, Ohio.

Active in her church, Janet particularly liked going to the Sunday evening services and attending the North American Christian Convention. Janet was a gracious hostess; she and Bill opened their home in Canton for mid-week Bible studies and for Sunday School class socials in both Canton and Ashland. She enjoyed preparing for the holidays with decorations and food, savored her role as grandma to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was extremely fond of dogs, especially the family collie, Georgi. The memories she helped create and recipes she handed down will continue her legacy for those she loved.

In retirement, she and Bill moved to Ashland, traveled together on several bus trips throughout the United States, and visited ancestral homes in Wales (where she reconnected with cousins) and Switzerland, as well as touring England, Scotland, and France.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband on March 29, 2017, her parents, a sister Virginia Maxwell, and brothers, Charles Evans and David Evans.

She is survived by sons, Warren (Anne) Jones of Duluth, Georgia; Timothy Bruce (Beatrice) Jones of Madison, Wisconsin; and a daughter Nancy (Stanley) Hess of Ashland, Ohio, as well as seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Friends may greet the family on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 3 p.m., one hour prior to the 4 p.m. service honoring Janet’s life at Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, 313 Center Street, Ashland with Pastor Scot Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park.

Memorial gifts may be given to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805 in Janet’s memory.

The family wishes to thank all those at Belmont Tower and Crystal Care, as well as Hospice, whose care and support meant so much to Mom during these last months.

For those who may not be able to attend, online condolences may be shared on the funeral home’s website at denbowfh.com.

Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
