Barbara Snow Hoffman-Mooney, 88, of Ashland passed away Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Ashland.

Barbara was born in Akron, Ohio on March 31, 1929 and was the daughter of Howard O. and Blanche (Hecker) Snow. She is preceded in death by her husbands Arthur E. Hoffman of Syracuse/Philadelphia/Ashland; Noel F. Mooney of Ashland, her parents; a brother, Richard A. Snow and sister June Marie Snow Williamson.

A graduate of the Ashland High School Class of 1946, she worked in the law office of Howard Lutz before leaving Ashland for Cleveland, where she worked in law offices, married and moved to New York City. She directed and produced documentary films for Hearst Metrotone News and USIA requiring top security clearance. She supported studies on mental retardation and alcoholism at New York University, as well as producing the Etymalogical Derivation of proper names for the Funk & Wagnall Dictionary.

Subsequent moves took her to Mill Valley, California; Detroit, Michigan and St Davids, Pennsylvania. She met and married Arthur Hoffman, served as subsidiary analyst for the Sun Oil Company (Sunoco) before retiring and relocating to Ashland to care for her aging mother. While in Philadelphia she also held a real estate license, became a paralegal and attended Villanova University. She was an advocate of Bill Wilson since 1971.

She worked for several attorneys in Ashland; assisted the physicians of Mansfield in the formation of legal entities to house an HMO; Administrative Assistant to Samaritan Hospital Foundation reporting to CEO Kelly from a satellite office; Sales Associate at J.C. Penney and Lazarus; coding and typing manuscripts for Bookmasters.

Mrs. Mooney served as member of the Advisory Council and Legislative Committee of District 5 Area on Aging; Vice President of Friends of the Ashland Public Library; Hospice of North Central Ohio Patient Care; joined her husband, Noel Mooney, in a pinning ceremony of veterans served by Hospice of North Central Ohio; President of the Ashland County Alcohol & Drug Abuse Board (ACCADA) and previously a member of the Mental Health and Recovery Board. Other volunteer duties included the Ashland Community Art Center, Red Cross front desk at Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of the Columbus Museum of Art, Ashland Historical Society, The American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She proudly supported the Ashland Veterans Honor and Color Guards as Contact/Dispatcher.

She was a past member and officer of the Ashland County Woman’s Republican Club and served on the Board of the Ohio Federation of Republican Woman; Member and officer of Altrusa; President of Ashland Garden Club; Member and officer of the Art of Gardening Club; Coordinator of reunions for the AHS Class of 1946. She was a member of the Golden Serenaders and the Ashland Evening Lions.

Surviving is her friend and companion Jackie Holland; two brothers, E. Ned (Carolyn) Snow of Lake Oswego, Oregon and Fred A. (Jeanne) Snow of Anaheim, California; Nephews Eric Scott (Rosalie) Snow, Rex A. (Anglea) Snow and Irwin A. (Julie) Williamson; Nieces Kim A. Snow-Kennedy and Barbara A. Snow. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Wayne, Pa.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no visitation of services observed. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse, New York. Expressions of sympathy, and remembrances, may be shared with the family by visiting the funeral home website at denbowfh.com
