Obituary for Corinne A. Hubler

Corinne A. Hubler
Corinne A. Hubler, 85

Corinne Ann (Boekel) Hubler, 85, Ashland, Ohio, died Sunday morning, December 3, at The Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.

Born in Canton, Ohio, on February 12, 1932, she lived in East Greenville, graduating from Massillon High School in 1950.

Waiting at the altar for nearly two hours for her groom to arrive during a blizzard, she married Clifford D. Hubler, on January 7, 1951, who survives. In addition to her loving husband of nearly 67 years, two children were born of their union: Catherine Hubler Fynes (Roger Thurman), Columbus, and Craig D. Hubler, Burbank, CA. Also surviving Corinne are two grandchildren, Marisa L Fynes of Toledo and Dr. Evan M. Fynes (Kathryn Pelz), of New Smyrna Beach, FL; her brother, Roland (Jacqueline) Boekel of East Greenville; four great-grandchildren, Aliziah, Aaliyah and Amya Phillips of Toledo, and Hudson Fynes of New Smyrna Beach; and a great-grandchild to-be in late February 2018; ten nieces and nephews and their spouses; brother-in-law William (Janet) Hubler, Mansfield, and sisters-in-law Kay Williams of Bellville and Carole Bernard of Ashland, and her former son-in-law, Jack Fynes, of Toledo.

Preceding Corinne in death were her parents, Herman and Susan (Sistock) Boekel, and her brothers-in-law James Bernard and Jack Williams.

Corinne was a woman of strong character, a sharp mind and dry wit. Family was most important to her. You could count on her to be direct and to the point. She expected excellence. And, you could catch her blasting the stereo to singer Tom Jones.

She entered the workforce when her children were in their early teens; at both the junior and high schools in various roles. Later, she was an Executive Assistant to the VP of Academic Affairs at Ashland University.

Corinne and her husband were founding members of the Friendship Class at First United Methodist Church, where many of those friendships continue today. After the couple’s retirement, they traveled extensively worldwide, enjoyed square-dancing, and weekly card games with friends. She accompanied her husband to many activities with the Ashland Evening Lions. Additionally, she was recognized as a 35-year auxiliary volunteer at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland.

Celebration of Corinne’s life will be Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Tom Snyder officiating. Lunch will be served in the Dauch Fellowship Hall following the service. Corinne will be laid to rest in the Ashland Cemetery following lunch. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, LPNs, aides as well as the administration of The Good Shepard, Lutheran Village of Ashland, Hospice of North Central Ohio, and Pastor Emeritus Tom Snyder, for their kindness, gentle care and support of Corinne and her family. Special thanks to Bonnie Hobson and Pauline Patton for making Corinne’s days brighter and to Anne and Ray Jacobs, neighbors. Finally, the children thank Ashland EMS for providing assistance during Corinne’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 622 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 to Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 663 East Main Street, Ashland, Ohio, 44805.

For those who may not be able to attend, online condolences may be shared on the funeral home’s website at denbowfh.com.
