Jerry D. Sloan, 68
Jerry Dean Sloan, Ashland, 68 passed peacefully in his sleep at home, August 25, 2018.
He was born November 26, 1949 to the late Elmer C. and Dona I. (Moorman) Sloan in Ashland, Ohio.
Raised in Nankin, he was a 1968 graduate of Mapleton High School where he played football.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1971-to 1973 and earned an honorable discharge from the military. Jerry worked as an over-the-road truck driver for more than 40 years.
He was a member of numerous veterans groups and Past Commander of the Ashland Amvets Post 96. He was a member of the Sloan’s Round Barn Dynasty Est. 1912. Jerry was very proud of his heritage. He loved motorcycles, wood working, was a great cook, and a diehard Cleveland Indian and
Cleveland Browns fan. Singing and music was his passion especially singing with Linda. He will be missed by all that knew him and especially all that loved him.
On May 15, 2010 he and Linda Coffman committed their lives to each other.
Jerry always said she was the love of his life and his soulmate.
She survives. In addition, his sister Christine (Jack) Patterson of West Lafayette, Ohio; a brother Gary (Karen) Sloan of Shreve, Ohio; daughter Kimberly (Richard) Rogers; son Brian (Jackie) Sloan all of Texas; grandchildren, Amanda Ree' Allen, Gabrielle, and Wyatt Sloan; 2 great grandchildren; 6 step children; numerous step grandchildren; a niece; several nephews; a cousin and very special friend Becky Sue Sloan.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his one grandson, Daniel Mortensen.
A celebration of life will be held, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Amvets Post 96, 233 Union Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Ashland Veteran's Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at 2:30 p.m.
